Summer
Buck Lake summers are full of activities and fun. With the long days it shines from dawn to dusk.
Watersports are available to all with a lake that is never overcrowded. With the different contours of the lake there is almost always some water that is calm allowing for waterskiing or other water activities.
In June the lake hosts a fishing derby which also coincides with possibly the best fishing time at the lake.
Early in July, the town hosts the Buck Lake Rodeo which draws great interest from the region bringing with it thousands of attendees and hundreds of participants. There is no better rodeo experience where you can be so close to the action.
Also watching the late day thunderstorms role in from the west is always exciting. And after a good downpour get ready for some wonderous rainbows – maybe even a double!
If golfing is your thing, a full service 18 hole course is just minutes away and if you are looking for more variety you should consider Pine Hills course which is cut into the forest just north of Rocky Mountain House. Drayton Valley’s golf course is home to a world champion long drive winner. To the east you can consider a couple courses near Pigeon Lake.
With sunlight out until late – being light until almost 11:00 in mid summer – it is a great time to canoe or kayak. Fishing also gets even better late in the day so make sure you try some fishing after supper – lots of time to land the big one!
The sunsets are majestic. They never get old.
